Today we had a Skype interview with a Year 6 class in Adelaide also doing Exhibition. We talked about what sort of questions we would ask and thought of five that would either confirm what we already knew, extend our thinking or change our perspective.
These are the things we wanted to know...
- what is their Exhibition about?
- where are they up to in the Exhibition process?
- what have they learnt so far?
- how are they recording their information?
- how are they going to present their work?
We then spent the rest of the session organising our groups. We made choices based on what our interests were and talked about our next steps, which were to organise a central agreement for our group.
Some of the groups topics were...
Children with illnesses
Families of children affected by illness
Trauma and mental health
Homeless animals
Hurt animals
Native wild-life
Caring for the elderly
Children's health and welfare

That is fantastic, Y6. Connecting with a class in another part of the world is a great way to reflect on your own learning and the process you are going through.
ReplyDeleteReading about your exhibition journey is exciting. Thank you for sharing with us.

Getting in groups was exciting. I I was worried I'll be on my own because nobody had the same idea as me. Then I did get a group. I was so happy. It was all about your not trying to be with your friends and follow your passion and perspective. You also had to be super flexible incase you had to go in another group and you had to make some connections. I really enjoyed grouping it was easier than I thought. And I'm really happy with my group!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic example of collaboration! I saw the link on Twitter for this and just loved this! Are you going to feature in the local newspaper or something with this?
The reason I say that is that I know the Exhibition is such a significant event (my partner used to teach at a IBL School in Auckland and also I know we have an IBL School here in Hamilton). I am sure in both cases the schools would also want to communicate ideas and even see examples of the work that you've created - and the internet and working online is absouletly suited for that.
I enjoyed so much the fact that you had the video of the Skype conversation and included that in your post, it made me feel that I was part of the conversation, and I thought that it was extremely inspiring to have the Australian boy (Jacob) talking about Sustainability and getting an expert involved and wonderful that someone from New Zealand asked him how he made the connection with the person, because as I was viewing the video thats the exact question that popped into my head before it was asked!

Thank you for posting this video on our blog, Ginnie! It was really sad but inspiring at the same time. It inspired us to get out there and get our hands dirty, like how the boy went on a plane with a bottle of water to give a girl clean water. It really shows how a small thing like a bottle of water can make a big difference.
